Hegeman, a reimagining of Lowther's horn legacy.
Revisiting the fabled collaboration between Donald Chave and Stewart Hegeman in the 1950's, the Hegeman revives a revered chapter in Lowther's history, drawing inspiration from classic Voigt horn architecture while embracing the precision of modern craftsmanship.
Offered exclusively with the Lowther Field Coil or PM4A Philharmonic, it delivers breathtaking immediacy and scale, revealing the full emotional weight of music with absolute control and refinement. Each cabinet is handcrafted from Baltic Birch and finished in hand-matched veneers, achieving both resonance control and beauty in form. Built to commission, Hegeman represents the pinnacle of British artisanal engineering and a lifelong connection to musical truth.

Every Hegeman is handmade to order in our Northampton workshop. Each piece is built with care from start to finish by British craftsmen.

We use high-grade Baltic birch plywood for strength and tonal purity. Every panel is cut, shaped and joined by hand for perfect alignment.

You can choose from a range of real wood and specialist veneers. Each pair is book-matched to create a natural flow of grain that suits your space.

The drive units, including the PM7A Philharmonic, are assembled in our Norfolk atelier. Every part is crafted to the same standard as the world's finest instruments.

Each cone is hand-treated, air-dried and cured in natural sunlight. This gives every Lowther its unmistakably natural tone.

From wood to wire, every element is made to last for generations. A Lowther is not a product but an instrument that grows more beautiful with time.

Every cut, every joint, every finish is completed by hand. Our craftsmen bring decades of experience to each speaker, ensuring uncompromising quality.

Hegeman is for those who see music as art and sound as an emotional journey. Its presence is commanding yet understated, its sound enveloping yet precise. Every pair is built to order, tailored to the listener who values authenticity and craftsmanship above all else. With its classic horn form and flawless finish, Hegeman embodies the reverence of a tradition that has defined true high-fidelity for nearly a century.

Lowther's journey of innovation continues. The modern Hegeman, while honouring its classic roots, houses Lowther's groundbreaking field coil driver, alongside the option of the legendary PM4A unit. This blend of old and new engineering offers an unparalleled sonic experience for today's audiophile.

Stewart Hegeman, an American luminary, sits alongside the likes of Sidney Harman, Avery Fisher, and Saul Marantz in the annals of hi‑fi history. His alliance with Lowther's Donald Chave in the 1950s led to the birth of the original Hegeman. Now, six decades on, the Hegeman is reclaiming its crown as the flagship speaker of Lowther's Heritage Range, symbolizing a momentous chapter in Hi‑Fi chronicles.

In its initial form, the Hegeman employed a delicate plaster horn. The reimagined Hegeman, however, embraces features an upper-horn crafted from curved composite, which replaces the original's fragile plaster and sets a new industry standard. And with veneers that rival the finest Italian craftsmanship, the Hegeman stands as a testament to Lowther's dedication to both form and function.
